Foreign languages for children
We offer private and group classes for children at our language center conveniently located in downtown Santa Cruz at 765 Cedar Street (View Map) and on-location after school programs in the area. Our instruction method for children is based on combining immersion and conversational learning environment with fun games and activities that keep children engaged.
The goal will be for the teacher to teach the class entirely in the language. With young children or pure beginner, the teacher will translate a little bit to reduce the anxiety, but only after repeating the sentences in the language.
Language rules are introduced as part of the conversation as the participants gain more confidence in their mastery of the language.
Children as young as 3 years can be in a group class and as with Adult Classes we open a class once we have 2 students, the maximum per class being 5 students.
Why learn a foreign language?
SPEAKING two languages rather than just one has obvious practical benefits in an increasingly globalized world. But in recent years, scientists have begun to show that the advantages of bilingualism are even more fundamental than being able to converse with a wider range of people. Being bilingual, it turns out, makes you smarter. It can have a profound effect on your brain, improving cognitive skills not related to language and even shielding against dementia in old age.
