Our instruction methods
Our curriculum is created by the teachers here at the school and uses a variety of hands on approaches from arts and crafts, songs, stories, dancing and games. Each class is designed to teach a set of vocabulary words bases on themes (currently on-going events, holidays etc…). The activities are then used to reinforce the learning of these terms, and use all 5 senses. In addition, these terms are used in different contexts as the teacher speaks to them in the language. The classes are designed so that the children learn the language effortlessly as they are having fun.
As with the Adult Classes the curriculum is further customized to the students in each class, it moves slower or faster depending on the learning rates of the students and as with the Adult Classes, the cultures/customs of the countries where the language is spoken are introduced. With older children who can read and write, reading and writing as well as grammar are also taught but always in a way that is fun and consistent with the themes we are following.
With teenagers we can also further adapt the curriculum to help them with classes they are taken at their schools or to prepare for AP tests or other tests.
*There are no books or materials to purchase (as we create our curriculum ourselves), the students will be provided with the material covered in each class to take home and practice.
- Tuition: Enrollment in any of our children’s programs is on a semester-basis. Once a child is registered for the semester, payment for the program is due in full. We do accept payment in installments to accommodate those who prefer not to pay the full tuition all at once. Each installment payment will need to be collected by the first class of each month if paying monthly, or at the first class of every other month, if paying bi-monthly. Enrollment in any of our adult programs is for a block of 8 classes. Once a student is registered for the session, payment for the program is due in full. We do accept payment in installments to accommodate those who prefer not to pay the full tuition all at once. Each installment payment will need to be collected by the first class of each month if paying monthly.
- Missed Classes: Classes missed by a student due to illness, vacations or personal scheduling conflicts will not be rescheduled (unless a similar class is available) and no credit will be issued. If a similar class is available, please inform the teacher or the administrator before coming to a make-up lesson. Students are entitled to make-up two missed lessons per semester depending upon class availability. With classes with small number of students (2-3) we will allow a class to be rescheduled if all the other students and the teacher agree to the new time.
- Withdrawal/Cancellations: If a student withdraws within the first two weeks of enrollment a refund will be issued for the remaining classes. After the second week of classes 50% of the remaining funds will be reimbursed.
- Observing a class: Students can sit in on one class if interested. If they chose to keep going with that class it will be added to their invoice, if not they will not be charged for it.
